Electronic Health Records (EHR) is a health information technology database that is being widely adopted in the healthcare industry. An EHR is a comprehensive, real-time record of an individual’s health/healthcare information in a digitized format. EHR data is recorded and maintained by healthcare providers over time and includes information on patient’s medical history, treatments, medication, immunizations, radiology images, lab, and test results, as well as progress notes, demographic data, and insurance information. In addition to storing heath data, the EHR system automates access to information, streamlines providers workflow and includes evidence-based decision support, outcome reporting and quality management interfaces. The purpose of EHR is to support improvements in the delivery of efficient and quality health care, by consolidating a patient’s clinical information into a single interface that can be readily accessed by authorized users and securely exchanged across healthcare providers (HealthIT, 2021).
